Description:
This enchanting rocker incorporates a cradle into its form to make an undulating and exceedingly comfortable seat from which to admire your sleeping baby. The seat and cradle base are hand-sculpted like all my rockers. The arrowhead backrest elements are solid, not laminations. Each of the twenty-two tapering stands in the cradle rail are different in length and the angle at which they enter the rail. The cradle rail itself moves in three dimensions as it wends around the sculpted base.
The rocker cradle can be made from any hardwood of your choosing, subject to availability. The design is based on Sam Maloof’s style and Scott Morrison’s dimensions. It is a showstopper of a piece, visually speaking, but more importantly, it is a piece that fosters an experience. It honors its precious and beautiful newborn rider by its own beauty. I can think of no finer gift – equally useful and lovely – for expectant parents.
Note: The version shown has two cosmetic defects: difficulty in wrapping the laminations around the cradle rail form led to sligth gaps on the rounded face of the hairpin end of the cradle rail. And I used an adder block to strengthen the joint where the cradle rail meets the inside back leg. Therefore I will reduce the price of this piece by $500 for each of these, a $1000 total reduction.
